Please note that you must also re-register for the exam in Jogustine for repeat exams!

If a module examination in the form of a written examination is not passed, the first repeat examination must be taken in the following semester. Any failed first resit examination must also be repeated in the following semester.

If a module examination in the form of a term paper is not passed, the first repeat examination (= preparation of a new term paper) must also take place in the following semester. Any failed first resit examination must then also be repeated in the following semester; a new term paper must also be completed for the second resit examination.

If you fail module examinations, you should definitely visit the student advisory service. Please note: If you also fail the second repeat examination, you have definitively failed and cannot continue your political science studies in Mainz, as a rule not even in the same degree program at another university in Germany.

Further information on module examinations can be found on the module examinations page of your degree program.

The binding registration for the module examination is always made via JOGU-StINe within the given registration deadline. The topic of the term paper is agreed directly with the lecturer.

The Bachelor’s final examination is scheduled for the 6th semester (final thesis in one subject with a completion time of eight weeks). A topic agreed with the supervisor must be submitted for the bachelor’s thesis. Further information on the Bachelor’s examination can be found on the website of the university examination office for teacher education (HPL); this is also where registration for the Bachelor’s final examination takes place.

Important note: When choosing the topic of the Bachelor’s thesis in the B.Ed., please note that according to the examination regulations, the Master’s thesis in the M.Ed. must be written in a different subject to the Bachelor’s thesis.

The fourth semester is the final phase of the M.A. Political and Democratic Research. A processing time of 4 months applies for the preparation of the master’s thesis. The final oral examination lasts 45 minutes; questions are asked about the master’s thesis, the subject area of the thesis and another subject area. Please read the examination regulations carefully! Further information on how to initiate the final examination procedure can be found on the pages of the examination office of Faculty 02.

The master’s thesis in the M.Ed. program may not be written in educational sciences or in the subject in which the bachelor’s thesis was written. The processing period for the master’s thesis is 6 months, whereby the topic must be chosen in such a way that the thesis can be written full-time within four months. Full-time means a maximum of 39 working hours per working week. Please read the examination regulations carefully. Further information can be found on the website of the university examination office.
